The decision was reached during a meeting between the Sub-Committee of the Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reform and representatives of the Somali Business Community. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Dr. Wek Mamer Kuol.
According to the agreement, the price of fuel will be reduced from around SSP 18,000 per litre to SSP 14,800, while some fuel traders have committed to lowering prices further to SSP 14,500 per litre.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Wek Mamer Kuol and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Margret Labanya, confirmed that the new fuel prices were expected to take effect immediately.
The ministers welcomed the Somali Business Community’s support, describing the move as an important contribution towards reducing the cost of living for South Sudanese citizens.
Dr. Wek said the government remains committed to improving the welfare of the population under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, noting that the recently established Economic Reform Committee is working to address economic challenges affecting livelihoods across the country.
The reduction in fuel prices is expected to bring relief to consumers and businesses as the government continues efforts to stabilise the economy and improve living conditions nationwide.
