
South Sudan Reviews Food Subsidies/PHOTO CREDITS: National Ministry of Trade and Industry
(JUBA) – South Sudan’s Ministry of Trade and Industry on 29 January 2026 held its second senior management meeting of the year, focusing on food price support, market stability and plans to expand local industry.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Atong Kuol Manyang, and brought together senior officials including the technical adviser, the undersecretary, director generals and department directors.
Senior managers received a briefing on food subsidies and measures aimed at stabilising markets. A joint committee made presentations on current findings, challenges and proposed next steps. The committee included representatives from B Smart, the National Revenue Authority and the Ministry of Finance. Officials said the goal is to keep basic goods affordable for citizens at a time of continued economic pressure in South Sudan.
The meeting also heard a technical presentation from Vink Energy Group on plans to set up a modern fish processing facility. The proposal is aimed at boosting local production, adding value to fisheries and supporting exports.
In her closing remarks, Minister Manyang thanked participants and partners for their work. She said food security and industrial growth remain key priorities for the ministry during the 2026 financial year.
In related news, Minister Manyang on the same day received a courtesy visit from the Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan, Roar Haugsdal, at her office in Juba. The meeting focused on strengthening trade ties and cooperation between South Sudan and Norway.
The minister thanked Norway for its continued partnership and support to the people of South Sudan, according to a statement from the ministry’s press unit.
