Governor Adil Meets Chinese Investment to Drive Modernisation of Juba

(JUBA) – Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony has intensified efforts to transform Juba into a modern and well-planned capital city by engaging the China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC) on potential investments in infrastructure, housing and urban development.

The discussions reflect Governor Adil’s broader vision of upgrading the city’s physical infrastructure and positioning Central Equatoria as the economic and administrative hub of South Sudan.

Speaking during the engagement, Governor Adil said the state government is drawing lessons from successful urban development models across the region, particularly Ethiopia. He noted that his visit to Ethiopia in May enabled him to engage with the Federal Housing Corporation of Ethiopia and explore modern approaches to housing and urban planning.

According to the Governor, the engagement culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and a partnership agreement in July, underscoring the state government’s commitment to building practical international partnerships that can accelerate development and improve living conditions for residents.

Governor Adil welcomed the Chinese construction firm to explore investment opportunities in Central Equatoria and called for stronger collaboration in key sectors including infrastructure, housing and public services.

The meeting brought together senior state officials, among them the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Housing and Public Utilities, the Minister of Trade and Industry, and the Mayor of Juba City Council. Wei, the General Manager of CCCC in Ethiopia, also participated in the discussions.

The engagement is expected to open avenues for investment and technical cooperation aimed at supporting Juba’s transformation into a modern capital capable of meeting the demands of a growing urban population.
