
Governor Adil Seeks Legal Review of Juba Tax Collections / PHOTO: State Government Press
(JUBA) – Personal income tax collection in the capital has become a heavy burden on businesses, the Governor of Central Equatoria State told the national Justice Minister on Tuesday during a meeting to seek a legal opinion on state revenue collections.
Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony met with the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Wek Mamer Kuol, in Juba.
He briefed the minister on challenges facing the state, especially the role of the National Revenue Authority (SSRA) in Juba and concerns over personal income tax. He said the taxes are making it difficult for businesses to run smoothly in the capital.
Minister Wek Mamer Kuol promised to study the matter and find friendly solutions to the issues raised.
In a related development, Governor Adil has directed the newly sworn in Deputy Mayor for Social Services and Infrastructure, Wol Mathok Diing, to work in a spirit of teamwork with the existing leadership of Juba City Council to improve service delivery.
The Governor presided over the swearing in ceremony on Tuesday. He stressed the need to reorganise the city by opening roads and setting up proper markets.
He also urged the council leadership to tackle widespread littering and keep the city clean, green and safe. He said this is a shared duty and called for public education on the role of citizens in keeping the city clean, safe and green, which remains a key pillar of the administration.
Deputy Mayor Wol Mathok Diing thanked the Governor for the trust placed in him and promised to work closely with the action focused leadership of Juba City Council to provide social services to the people.
The Mayor of Juba City Council, Christopher Wani Sarafino Swaka, congratulated the Deputy Mayor on his appointment and welcomed him to the council.
The Mayor said they will work together to carry out the plan of renewing Juba city to meet world standards, with a strong focus on an effective environment and waste management system.
