Governor Adil Upgrades Yei Day Secondary School to Boarding Institution

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) -The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has on officially elevated Yei Day Secondary School from a day school to a mixed day and boarding institution, in a move aimed at improving access to quality education in the state.

Speaking during a visit to Kinji and Yei Day Secondary School on Wednesday, Governor Adil praised teachers, students and education officials for their commitment to learning and urged students, particularly girls, to remain focused on their studies.

The Governor also directed relevant authorities to safeguard the school’s land and address cases of encroachment through legal means.

Meanwhile, the State Minister of Education, Hon. Lupai Satimon, announced plans by the government to recruit additional teachers, establish science laboratories, connect schools to electricity and improve education data management systems across the state.

Yei River County Commissioner, Hon. Samuel Batali Malimbo, called for legal action against individuals encroaching on school land, stressing the need to protect educational infrastructure.

The County Education Director Philip Taban Issa highlighted a shortage of teachers and the limited number of functioning government secondary schools as some of the key challenges facing the education sector in the county.

The Head Teacher of Yei Day Secondary School reported that the institution currently enrolled more than 800 students supported by 22 teachers and eight support staff. He noted that improved security and relative peace in the area have contributed to a steady increase in student enrolment.

Education authorities say the school’s new boarding status is expected to expand learning opportunities for students from Yei River County and neighbouring areas.
