(MOROBO COUNTY) – Residents of Morobo County have welcomed a donation of SSP 50 million from Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony to support the rehabilitation of Ombasci Primary School, which has been struggling with poor infrastructure and the effects of years of conflict.
The donation was announced during the Governor’s visit to Ombasci Primary School and Kanyara Secondary Schools on 14 August 2026, as part of his ongoing tour of Morobo County aimed at engaging communities, promoting peace and unity, strengthening security and advancing development across the state.
While inspecting Ombasci Primary School, Governor Adil acknowledged the difficult learning environment faced by pupils and teachers, including damaged classrooms and challenges caused by the rainy season. He praised teachers for their dedication despite limited resources and directed the State Ministry of General Education and county education authorities to assess qualified volunteer teachers for possible integration into the government payroll.
To support the school’s rehabilitation, the Governor instructed the county commissioner to engage an engineer to assess the condition of the facility and pledged SSP 50 million for molding bricks and other improvement works.
Governor Adil encouraged learners to remain committed to their studies, describing education as a long-term investment in their future. He also urged girls to stay in school and prepare themselves for future leadership roles.
At Kanyara Secondary School, the county’s only functional public secondary school, the Governor announced plans to upgrade the institution into both a boarding and day school. He said the expansion would include improved facilities and the introduction of a vocational training component to equip young people with practical technical skills.
Speaking during the visit, Morobo County Commissioner Joseph Mawa Okuba appealed for greater government support to transform Kanyara Secondary School into a fully-fledged boarding institution. Meanwhile, State Minister of Education Hon. Lupai Satimon outlined plans to improve school facilities and support the integration of qualified volunteer teachers.
During his interaction with students at both schools, Governor Adil heard concerns about a shortage of classroom furniture, inadequate seating, and the absence of a school feeding programme.
Residents welcomed the Governor’s intervention and expressed hope that the pledge would lead to tangible improvements in education services.
Alfred Simon, a resident of Morobo County, commended the Governor for the support and urged authorities to ensure the commitment is implemented.
“We thank the Governor for this great support. Our appeal is that this plan should be translated into action so that more learners can be attracted to school in the county,” he said.
Lilian Kidena, a mother of two girls who attended the school, said the donation would help address some of the challenges affecting education in the area.
“We are happy with the support because many children are studying under very poor conditions. There are no adequate classrooms, furniture or scholastic materials, and teachers are struggling to teach under difficult circumstances,” she said.
Kidena expressed hope that the Governor’s contribution would improve learning conditions and enhance the quality of education for children across Morobo County.
