Foreign Embassies Call for Increased Health Funding Amid Regional Ebola Outbreak

(JUBA) -The Embassies of Canada, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States have called for increased public funding to strengthen South Sudan’s health sector following the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the region.

In a joint statement released on 21st July, the diplomatic missions expressed concern over the threat posed by the outbreak and stressed the urgent need for sustainable investment in public healthcare services across the country.

The embassies noted that adequate funding is critical to support disease monitoring, early detection, and response efforts aimed at preventing the spread of Ebola and other public health emergencies.

They also emphasized the importance of prompt and regular payment of salaries for public health workers, including frontline personnel involved in Ebola surveillance and response activities.

According to the statement, strengthening the health system through increased public financing will help improve preparedness and ensure that health workers have the resources needed to protect communities.

The diplomatic missions reaffirmed their commitment to supporting South Sudan’s health sector and encouraged continued efforts to build a resilient healthcare system capable of responding to future outbreaks.
