(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Yei has called on the local government to remove armed Ambororo cattle herders from Tore Payam before the rainy season begins.
Bishop Levi Marandulu Yepete stated that the presence of many herders is creating a security risk and causing fear among local residents. He warned that this situation could disrupt farming and make the current food shortages in the area even worse.
Bishop Marandulu also asked county leaders to start a dialogue to help reconcile farmers and cattle herders.
He believes this is necessary to create lasting peace in the area. During a meeting on Thursday, the Bishop praised the Commissioner and county leadership for their work in maintaining political stability.
He specifically mentioned an outreach programme on 30th December 2025 where the Commissioner visited inmates, patients and orphans. The Bishop described these actions as a clear sign of good leadership.
In response, Commissioner Emmanuel Taban Seme thanked the Bishop for his involvement and promised to resolve the issue peacefully.
The Commissioner said he is ready to organize talks between the cattle herders and the local communities as soon as possible. He assured the public that the government will take the necessary steps to ensure the herders leave Tore Payam.
The Commissioner also thanked the Bishop for his visit and noted that the Church plays an important role in peace and unity within Yei River County.
He said the county government remains committed to working with religious groups to encourage development and stability.
