(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Emmanuel Taban Seme, has presided over the official presentation of a new development project aimed at supporting durable solutions for communities in the area.
The project, titled “Catalysing Durable Solutions in Yei River County and Beyond”, is funded by the European Union Directorate General for International Partnerships and will be implemented by the International Organization for Migration over a period of 30 months, from 2026 to 2028.
Speaking at the event in Yei on Wednesday, the Commissioner welcomed the initiative and described it as a direct outcome of the Yei River County Strategic Plan for 2025 to 2029. He said the plan was developed through wide consultations with local communities and reflected their priorities and needs.
He stated that the County Government remains committed to organised planning and strong cooperation with development partners to deliver practical results for residents. He added that such projects were important for rebuilding livelihoods, improving services and strengthening stability in the county and across South Sudan.
Commissioner Taban said his administration’s main goal was to promote unity, shared responsibility, and practical action in order to improve living conditions in Yei. He assured partners of full cooperation and support from county authorities to ensure the project is implemented effectively and benefits local people.
Representing the International Organization for Migration, Mr Bombe Joseph praised the county leadership for its consistent engagement and follow up in advancing the project. He said the initiative was designed based on priorities identified by the county and local communities.
Mr Joseph reaffirmed IOM’s commitment to strengthening local institutions, supporting community skills development, and ensuring proper implementation throughout the project period. He noted that close cooperation with county authorities would be key to achieving lasting results.
The Office of the Commissioner said it valued its continued partnership with development agencies and remained open to further cooperation. It said such collaboration was essential for building resilience, promoting peace and supporting sustainable development in Yei River County and South Sudan as a whole.
