(JUBA) – Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony has ordered the upgrade of three major health facilities across the state in a move aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services and strengthening the region’s medical system.
Under the gubernatorial directive, the Lainya Primary Health Care Centre and Terekeka Primary Health Care Centre have been elevated to the status of County Hospitals, while Yei Civil Hospital has been upgraded to a State Referral Hospital. The changes took effect on September 10, 2026, and are expected to enhance the capacity of the facilities to provide a wider range of medical services to local communities.
Health officials have welcomed the move, describing it as a significant step toward improving healthcare delivery in Central Equatoria State. The upgrades are anticipated to attract additional medical personnel, support infrastructure development and increase the allocation of resources needed to meet growing healthcare demands. Authorities say the enhanced status of the facilities will help expand specialised treatment services and strengthen referral systems for patients across the state.
