Governor Orders Probe into Expired Food Repacking

(JUBA) – Central Equatoria State Caretaker Governor Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani has directed authorities to investigate H Brothers General Trading and Investment Company over allegations of repackaging expired food commodities for sale.

The directive followed an inspection of the company’s premises in the Gumbo area of Juba on Sunday.

According to the Central Equatoria State Government, the inspection team found flour, biscuits, cooking oil, sugar and other food items alleged to have expired and been repackaged into new containers with altered expiry dates.

Governor Jadalla directed Juba County Caretaker Commissioner Kalisto Lado to work with the South Sudan Bureau of Standards and relevant security agencies to ensure appropriate legal measures are taken.

He also urged members of the public to report suspicious or expired products found in markets and shops.

The state government says protecting public health and ensuring food sold in markets meets required safety standards remain priorities.
