(MOROBO COUNTY, CES) – The Caretaker Commissioner of Morobo County, Moro Isaac Johnson, has condemned an armed attack on civilians in Kanyara Village and called for an immediate end to criminal activities targeting communities in the county.
Commissioner Isaac said the incident occurred on Sunday night, when an armed group reportedly entered Kanyara Village, harassed residents and looted nine goats, clothes, foodstuffs and other civilian belongings.
The commissioner alleged that those responsible were suspected members of the SPLM-IO. However, this claim could not be independently verified from the SPLM-IO spokesman in the area.
Speaking to residents at Marakaji Centre on Monday afternoon, Commissioner Isaac called for calm and urged the public not to be frightened by what he described as unverified information circulating following the shooting.
He assured residents that the SSPDF and other organized forces were working to protect civilians, saying the security situation following the shooting was under control.
Commissioner Isaac strongly criticized attacks on civilians, saying communities that have suffered years of insecurity should instead be protected by armed forces and organized groups.
He called for an immediate de-escalation of violence and criminal activities targeting innocent civilians, including women, children, young people and the elderly.
The commissioner also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the relevant authorities as efforts continue to restore normalcy.
The statement further accused SPLM-IO forces operating in parts of Morobo County of involvement in previous cattle raids and disruption of farming activities, allegations that were not independently verified in the material provided.
