(JUBA CITY) -The Central Equatoria State Security Committee has strongly condemned the abduction of civilians in Morobo County, allegedly carried out by SPLA-IO forces last week.
The committee, chaired by Central Equatoria Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony, made the remarks during its regular meeting held in Juba on Tuesday, June 16th, 2026.
According to officials, at least 34 civilians were abducted last week in Morobo County. The committee reports that four of the victims have since escaped, while the remaining individuals are still being held by the suspected rebel group.
The Security Committee has directed security forces on the ground in Morobo to engage and persuade the abductors to ensure the safe and timely release of those still in captivity.
Meanwhile, the committee also discussed broader security concerns across the state. Authorities have instructed the Juba County Commissioner to work closely with the leadership of the Pibor Administrative Area and ground forces to establish a safe corridor for traders transporting cattle to Mogiri Market.
Security officials further emphasized the importance of protecting civilians along the busy Juba-Bor road, calling for stronger coordination among security agencies to maintain law and order and enhance public safety.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the abducted civilians and improve security operations across Central Equatoria State.
