Yei Commissioner Assures UNMISS of Stability Amid Humanitarian Abduction Concerns

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The commissioner of Yei River County Samuel Henry Malimbo has assured a delegation of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) that the overall security situation across the county remains stable, despite reports of humanitarian and civilian abductions in some areas.

Speaking during a meeting with UNMISS, delegation on Tuesday, Commissioner Malimbo said security has significantly improved due to sustained operations by security agencies, which have dismantled criminal gangs that previously threatened public safety.

However, residents have raised concerns over continued cases of humanitarian and civilian abductions in Yei Town and Mugwo Payam.

The Commissioner pledged that authorities will take firm action against any attempts to revive criminal activities and reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to protecting civilians and maintaining peace.

He added that people are now able to move freely across the county as security agencies continue to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, the UNMISS delegation said its visit was aimed at assessing the security and humanitarian situation in Yei River County, including a field mission to Tore Payam.

County officials confirmed that local authorities granted the delegation access to conduct the assessment, which forms part of ongoing cooperation between UNMISS and local leaders to support peace, security, and stability in the area.
