(JUBA COUNTY) – The Central Equatoria State Government has strongly condemned the killing of two people and the abduction of seven children in Aru Junction, Lokiliri Payam, Juba County.
The condemnation was made during the State Security Committee’s weekly meeting chaired by Governor Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel on Tuesday in Juba.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Acting Minister of Information and Communication, Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, confirmed that the incident occurred on Sunday, 24 August. He said a couple were killed in the attack and their children were among those abducted:
“On 24 August, suspected attackers from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area abducted children aged between two and seven years. These are innocent lives that must be returned.”
The Security Committee directed security organs to pursue the perpetrators and ensure they face justice. The committee also called for calm and assured the public that investigations were underway.
In addition, the committee commended the Police for recent operations that led to the arrest of suspects linked to motorbike robberies, property snatching and other street crimes in Juba. Those arrested are currently under investigation and expected to be prosecuted.
“We applaud the Police for intensifying their operations. Those arrested are under investigation and will face the law,” the Acting Information Minister said.
The committee also expressed concern over flooding in several areas of Juba, including Gudele Blocks 4, 5 and 7, as well as parts of Munuki. The floods have disrupted road access, making it harder for security agencies to carry out their operations.
The State Government has urged the activation of the High Level Flood Mitigation Committee to address the problem, stressing that security responses depend on accessible road networks.
Aligo further emphasised the State Government’s commitment to dealing with armed holdout groups still operating in parts of Lainya, Yei River and Morobo counties.
