Detained civilians pose for a group photo with County Commissioner OKuba
(MOROBO COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Morobo County, Joseph Mawa Okuba, has overseen the release of two additional civilians from military detention following an inspection visit to a detention facility in Jimi on Tuesday morning.
During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed conditions at the facility and met with detainees, including Pascal Mawa and Mambo Habibu. The two had been held on allegations related to rebel activity and cattle raiding. They were among four civilians previously detained for investigation with one having been released earlier at the start of Commissioner Okuba’s tenure.
Emphasizing the importance of due process, Commissioner Okuba called for strict adherence to the rule of law. He urged military authorities to transfer civilians accused of criminal activities to the police for proper legal handling and further investigation.
With the latest releases, a total of three detainees Sallah Mansur, Pascal Mawa, and Mambo Habibu have now been freed and reunited with their families.
The released individuals expressed gratitude to the Commissioner, noting that their families would celebrate their return after months in detention. Army Commander Makur also commended the Commissioner’s approach, highlighting the need for continued cooperation among authorities to restore lasting peace in Morobo County.
