Residents Welcome Hospital Upgrade, Demand Action

(JUBA / YEI / KAJO-KEJI / LAINYA / TEREKEKA) – Residents across Central Equatoria State have welcomed Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony’s decision to upgrade the status of hospitals in Yei, Lainya and Terekeka counties, but are calling for swift implementation of the directive.

The announcement, published by the Governor’s Press Unit on 10th September 2026, was widely received as a positive step toward improving access to healthcare services in the state. However, residents stressed that the move must be backed by concrete action, including the recruitment of qualified health workers, provision of medical supplies and equipment and construction of modern hospital facilities.

Several residents also urged the state government to ensure equitable distribution of healthcare services across all counties, including Juba, Kajo-Keji and Morobo. They cautioned against turning the hospital upgrade initiative into a political campaign tool ahead of the December elections and called on authorities to translate policy announcements into tangible improvements on the ground.
