(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Emmanuel Taban Seme, has chaired the first Ordinary County Executive Council meeting of 2026, where officials adopted resolutions on sanitation, drug control, and governance reforms.
The meeting was held on Thursday at the County Secretariat and brought together senior county officials to review key issues affecting public welfare and development in the area.
In his opening remarks, the Commissioner thanked council members for their strong attendance and stressed the importance of regular executive meetings in addressing public concerns. He said coordinated action, shared responsibility, and unity among departments are essential for steady progress in South Sudan’s local governments.
One of the main resolutions was the planned launch of a General County Cleaning Campaign aimed at restoring and maintaining cleanliness in Yei Town and surrounding areas. The campaign is expected to promote public health, improve sanitation standards, and encourage residents to take part in keeping their communities clean and safe.
Council members also agreed on measures to address the sale and use of illegal drugs in the county. Officials expressed concern about the growing misuse of substances such as bangi and tramadol, especially among young people, linking the trend to rising crime and social problems.
The meeting discussed strengthening cooperation between security agencies, community leaders, and health workers to improve awareness, enforcement, and rehabilitation support for affected youths.
In addition, the Council reviewed plans to activate the Yei River County Legislative Council, including the swearing in of councillors. Officials said this step will improve representation, strengthen oversight, and support transparent decision making at the local level.
The Commissioner said an active legislative body is important for accountability and better service delivery, in line with national governance reforms in South Sudan.
The Office of the Commissioner said it remains committed to inclusive leadership, transparent administration, and sustainable development, working with communities and partners to improve living conditions across the county.
