(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Emmanuel Taban Seme, has met with a German peace researcher to discuss peace building and humanitarian development in the county.
The meeting took place on Thursday in Yei following the arrival of Brigate Kermling, who paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner’s office.
Kermling is expected to carry out research on peace building and humanitarian development, with a focus on challenges faced by internally displaced people, returnees, and host communities. The study will extend to the boma level to ensure that local views are included.
The research is being supported by Malteser International, which is working with local authorities and communities in the county.
The Commissioner welcomed the researcher and said studies of this kind are important for understanding community needs and guiding public policy. He noted that reliable information helps government institutions and partners design practical and effective programmes.
He said peace and security remain the main priorities of his administration, adding that instability continues to affect development and service delivery in many parts of South Sudan. He stressed that lasting progress depends on safety, trust, and cooperation between communities and authorities.
The Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to supporting development and humanitarian partners working in the county, saying their work contributes to improved living conditions and social recovery.
During the meeting, officials from Malteser International briefed the Commissioner on ongoing infrastructure work at Yei Main Hospital and plans to drill additional boreholes to expand access to clean and safe water.
They said the projects are intended to strengthen health services and reduce water shortages, especially in densely populated areas and communities hosting displaced families.
The Office of the Commissioner said it values continued cooperation with humanitarian and development partners in promoting peace, recovery and sustainable growth in Yei River County.
