(MOROBO COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Morobo County, Charles Data Bullen, has handed over a Nissan Patrol vehicle to the County Peace Committee to support peace building and conflict resolution activities.
The vehicle was donated by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan and was formally transferred during a ceremony held on Thursday at the County Headquarters.
Officials said the vehicle was received by the county authorities more than a month ago but its official handover was delayed due to administrative procedures and the pending swearing in of the Peace Committee. The Commissioner said the process was necessary to ensure proper management and legal operation.
He said the vehicle will help committee members reach communities across the county, especially in remote areas, to support dialogue, mediation, and early warning efforts.
Addressing the ceremony, the Commissioner stressed the importance of the Peace Committee in promoting harmony and unity among residents. He urged members to act with discipline, fairness, and respect for all communities.
He reminded the committee to remain neutral and independent, noting that Morobo County is home to diverse ethnic and political groups whose peaceful coexistence depends on trust and responsible leadership.
The Commissioner said the county administration believes that with proper support and commitment, the committee can play a key role in reducing local disputes and strengthening social cohesion.
The handover came two days after the Office of the Commissioner suspended Ayume Joel Manoah, the Acting Director of Peacebuilding, over allegations of serious misconduct. Officials said the action reflects the county leadership’s commitment to accountability and effective public service.
County authorities said the suspension is part of wider efforts to improve transparency and strengthen institutions involved in peace and governance.
The Peace Committee is expected to be sworn in next week and to begin full operations immediately after taking office.
Local leaders said the committee’s work is expected to support stability, encourage dialogue, and contribute to long term development in Morobo County and neighbouring areas.
The Office of the Commissioner said it will continue to work with national and international partners to strengthen community based peace initiatives across Central Equatoria State and South Sudan.
