(KAJO KEJI COUNTY) – The President of the Kajo Keji Football Association on Wednesday briefed the County Commissioner on progress made in developing football and youth sports, while appealing for the allocation of land to support organised sporting activities in the county.
Rikaju Julius, President of the Kajo Keji Football Association, paid a courtesy visit to the County Commissioner, Hon Wani Jackson Mule, at the county headquarters in Mere. The meeting focused on achievements, ongoing activities and challenges facing football development in Kajo Keji County.
During the discussion, Rikaju presented an overview of the association’s work, including the organisation of local football competitions, youth engagement programmes and efforts to revive sports as a means of peace building and social cohesion among communities in the county.
He told the commissioner that despite limited resources, the association has continued to mobilise young people across Kajo Keji County through football. He said these activities have helped promote unity, discipline and healthy lifestyles among the youth.
However, Rikaju noted that the lack of proper sports infrastructure remains a major challenge. He said the absence of designated land and facilities limits training opportunities, organised competitions and long term planning for football and other sports.
The association president therefore appealed to the county authorities to allocate land specifically for sports activities. He explained that such a decision would provide a permanent space for training, matches and the future development of sports facilities in Kajo Keji County.
He said allocating land for sports would not only support football but also contribute to youth empowerment, talent development and the promotion of peace within local communities.
In response, Commissioner Wani Jackson Mule commended the football association for its commitment to nurturing young talent and keeping youth positively engaged. He acknowledged the role of sports in promoting unity and reducing negative behaviour among young people.
The commissioner assured the association of the county administration’s support and said he would consult relevant departments on the possibility of allocating land for sports development. He encouraged the football leadership to continue working closely with the county government and other partners to strengthen sports and youth programmes.
The meeting ended with both sides expressing commitment to closer cooperation between the county authorities and the Kajo Keji Football Association, with the shared aim of using sports as a pillar for community development and peace in Kajo Keji County and across South Sudan.
