Commissioner: Water Transparency Key to Yei’s Development

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County has called for greater transparency, accountability and stakeholder cooperation in the management of Yei Town’s water facility. The appeal was made during a meeting with members of the Yei Town Water Management Committee at Yei River County Local Government headquarters on Tuesday.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Yei Town Water Management Committee, Commissioner Malimbo described the water facility as an important county-supported project and commended the committee for working closely with the county administration.

He said effective management of the water facility is essential for the benefit of residents and called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to safeguard the project.

The Commissioner encouraged the committee to organise a broader stakeholders’ meeting to discuss practical measures for maintaining and sustaining the water system.

Malimbo also warned against corruption, saying it undermines development efforts and hinders progress in local communities.

“There is a need to work with transparency in Yei to develop the county. Corruption is not a good thing and will not bring change to our community.”

The Commissioner further called on the water management company to recover and account for some of the facility’s assets, saying this would help improve operations and ensure uninterrupted water services.

He also appealed to residents to play an active role in the development of Yei River County.

According to Malimbo, sustainable development can only be achieved through the collective efforts of citizens, local institutions and the county administration.

During the meeting, James Wani Banja Chairperson of Yei town Water and Station Service called for the continued retention of technical staff within the water system, citing their experience and institutional knowledge as critical to the efficient management of the facility.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Water Management Committee, technical staff and the county administration to improve the sustainability and efficiency of water services in Yei Town.
