(YEI RIVER COUNTY, 23rd, MARCH, 2026) – A civil society activist in Yei River County has welcomed a court verdict sentencing a primary school teacher to four years in prison in Yei town.
According to police and court investigations, Dominic Kimoi, a teacher at Christ the King Primary School, was found guilty of attempting to molest a male pupil earlier this month.
The court martial, which sat in Yei town last Wednesday, heard that the accused pleaded guilty to the charges before sentencing was delivered.
Speaking to Access Radio on Monday, civil society leader Modi Arkangelo said the ruling marks an important step toward justice and the protection of human rights in the area.
“Last Wednesday, a mobile court martial handled a court case in Yei and the law has taken its course and the perpetrator has been sentenced to four years into imprisonment and pay three million South Sudanese pounds and if he fails to pay he will go into six years into prison and that is how the law works and as civil society, we welcome the court ruling.”
Arkangelo added that several other cases still require legal attention and called for continued efforts to ensure justice for crimes committed against civilians.
“For us as civil society, we give credit to the court judge in Yei because we have seen that cases have been presented to the court in Yei and these cases have been handled in a professional way and within these days, we have seen how people in Yei are expressing the good work done by the court and we have seen justice being executed.”
Local observers say strengthening the rule of law will help promote order, justice, and accountability across the county.
