(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has returned to Juba following an official visit to South Africa, where he held high-level talks focused on peace, elections, and economic cooperation.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit arrived in Juba on Sunday after what officials describe as a productive visit to South Africa.
He was received at Juba International Airport by crowds of supporters, including youth and women, who welcomed him and his delegation.
The visit followed recent regional engagements led by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, focusing on South Sudan’s peace process and preparations for elections.
During the talks, leaders reaffirmed key resolutions, including no extension of the transitional period and a commitment to hold elections as scheduled.
Both sides also agreed on the need for continued dialogue on election-related issues and respect for judicial independence.
President Kiir held meetings with President Cyril Ramaphosa, Deputy President Paul Mashatile, and other senior officials.
Discussions centered on implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement, promoting inclusive dialogue, and ensuring credible elections.
President Kiir reiterated South Sudan’s readiness to proceed with elections and reaffirmed his commitment to peace and democratic progress.
Economic cooperation was also a key focus, with opportunities identified in sectors such as mining, agriculture, aviation, healthcare, education, tourism, and oil.
Plans are underway to organize a South Africa–South Sudan Business Summit in Juba.
Officials say the visit marks a step forward in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
President Kiir thanked the government and people of South Africa for their hospitality and pledged to deliver on the outcomes of the visit.
