(YEI RIVER COUNTY) -The head chief of Yei Town Payam says family divorce cases have been on the rise since the beginning of this year.
According to Head Chief Morris Modi Lowiya, the increase is largely attributed to domestic violence as well as economic and social challenges within the community.
“Some of these cases involve couples with five to seven children. These are older parents with grown-up children who are now seeking divorce and we have been handling several cases of this nature. We also advise that if couples have issues, they should be resolved at home or brought before the customary court for solutions.”
Modi appealed to parents and couples to reform their approach and learn to address family challenges peacefully, rather than resorting to separation or divorce.
“I want to advise our people in Yei to change. I am calling on men in particular: if your wife has children, whether young or grown, do not divorce her, as this will affect the growth and well-being of your children. These are some of the factors that negatively impact children and their future.”
Modi further encouraged parents to share responsibility in managing family affairs and maintaining stability within the home.
