(MOROBO) – Local police in Morobo County, Central Equatoria State, have launched an investigation after a 35 year old businessman was killed in a targeted road ambush along the Kaya–Morobo road on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, identified as John Bosco Jamba and known locally as “Munu,” was travelling with two other individuals on motorbikes en route to Yei when they were ambushed by unknown armed men in Kanja village, Gulumbi Payam. Jamba was shot dead at the scene while the other two riders managed to escape unharmed.
“He was killed by unidentified gunmen at around 1 PM,” said Morobo County Police Inspector Captain Peter Murye Moses. “They were three people travelling by motorbike along the Kaya–Morobo–Yei route, and only the deceased was targeted. The body has since been taken to Yei for handover to his family and relatives.”
Security personnel have been deployed to the area as part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and investigate the attack. No arrests have been made so far.

Family members and local residents expressed sorrow and anger over the killing, urging the government to take stronger measures to protect civilians, especially along the insecure Yei–Morobo–Kaya highway.
One relative, who requested anonymity due to fear of reprisals, called for an immediate security intervention.
“We want the government to beef up security, stop the fighting and ensure the safety of people travelling along this road,” the source said.
Morobo County has been experiencing increasing insecurity in recent months, especially following renewed clashes between the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO).
The area has become a hotspot for ambushes, killings and abductions, disrupting trade and endangering civilians.
