(TEREKEKA COUNTY) – Authorities in Terekeka County say they have discovered what they described as witchcraft activities in a bush area near the Terekeka-Greater Bahr el Ghazal road, opposite Jor Boma, particularly in Bura Rengi village.
According to county officials, two bulls were found at the site. One red bull had been slaughtered and left on the ground, while a black bull appeared to have been buried alive, likely suffocated in the mud. The motive behind the act remains unclear, and those responsible have not yet been identified.
The Commissioner of Terekeka County, Hon. Dr Emmanuel Loku Lodu, led a team of security personnel, local chiefs, and church leaders to inspect the site.
Speaking after the visit, the Commissioner said witchcraft practices would not be tolerated in the county and warned that anyone found engaging in such acts would face legal consequences without exception.
Church representatives who joined the visit also strongly condemned the incident. They said that any attempts to harm the community or disrupt the county’s future through witchcraft would not succeed.
The church leaders described the discovery as a revelation of wrongdoing and assured the public that such practices would be defeated through faith.
Following the visit, the religious leaders set fire to items linked to the suspected witchcraft and declared that any curse intended through the act would fall back on those responsible.
Local officials stressed that this was the first such case reported in Terekeka County since its creation, adding that witchcraft has not traditionally been practised in Mundari land.
The authorities have not confirmed whether a formal investigation is underway to trace those behind the killing of the bulls.
