(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – More than 200 patients suffering from cataract-related eye conditions have successfully undergone surgery at Martha Medical Centre.
The outreach eye surgery program was organized by Martha Primary Health Care Center in partnership with Buluk Eye Clinic, based in Juba.
According to Dara Hillary, Manager of Martha Primary Health Care Center, the free surgical exercise, which began last week, officially concluded today, Monday.
He noted that the initiative attracted patients not only from Yei but also from neighboring counties including Lainya and Morobo, as well as areas such as Lasu Payam.
Speaking to Access Radio, Hillary explained that the surgeries were carried out by a team of eye specialists from Juba.
“We have been running cataract eye surgeries at Martha Health Clinic with a team of specialists from Juba. On the first day, 40 people were operated on, and on the second day, another 40 patients received surgery. We also had patients coming from Lainya and Morobo counties, and others from Lasu Payam. The exercise ended today at midday. Initially, we targeted 300 people, but based on our assessment, we managed to operate on about 220 patients.”
The initiative has brought much-needed relief to hundreds of patients, restoring sight and improving quality of life across the region.
