(YEI RIVER COUNTY ) – A security team deployed to the Greater Yei Area has successfully recovered 53 heads of cattle that were reportedly raided earlier this week.
The operation was conducted under the directives of Emmanuel Adil Anthony, Governor of Central Equatoria.
The team was led by State Advisor for Peace and Security Angelo Daya, and was tasked with implementing a Presidential Order requiring cattle to be returned to their original communities to reduce farmer–herder conflict.
The cattle were reportedly raided by herders from the Mundari community. The recovered animals belong to members of the Goja Community in Yei. A formal handover process is being organized to return the cattle to their rightful owners.
Cattle-related disputes are one of the leading causes of intercommunal violence, farmer–herder tensions, local displacement and economic instability in rural areas
This recovery effort signals enforcement of rule of law, implementation of national directives and State-level commitment to restoring community trust.
Yei, located southwest of Juba, has experienced recurring security challenges linked to armed groups and communal tensions. Efforts such as this operation aim to deter future raids, promote peaceful coexistence, strengthen civilian protection mechanisms.
