Senior Lainya Official Killed in Motorcycle Accident

(LAINYA COUNTY) – The Executive Director of Lainya County in Central Equatoria State has died following a motorcycle accident along the Lainya-Yei Road on Saturday, according to county officials.

Late Clement Suma was reportedly travelling from Yei to Lainya when the accident occurred in Limbe Boma. He was first taken to Yei Civil Hospital for medical attention and later referred to Juba for further treatment. However, he died before being evacuated by air.

Charles Leju Alfanso, the Lainya County Security Coordinator and Acting Commissioner, confirmed the death to Access Radio on Friday afternoon. He said Suma remained unconscious after the accident and passed away while being prepared for medical evacuation at Yei Airstrip.

“At the time of the accident, a well wisher brought him to the county. We sent him in an ambulance to Yei for treatment, but his condition remained serious. This morning, we arranged for him to be airlifted through City Link Aviation, but sadly, he passed away at Yei Airstrip,” Leju said.

He added that a committee has been formed to organise funeral prayers and burial arrangements.

“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the late Clement Suma. We are also waiting for our commissioner, who will join us for the funeral prayers once the date is confirmed,” he said.

Residents of Lainya town expressed their sorrow at the death of the senior official. Samuel Lodu, a local resident, described the late Suma as a humble and hardworking man who served the county diligently:

“We are deeply saddened by his death. He was kind, approachable, and committed to his work. We will miss his service and may his soul rest in peace.”

The incident has once again drawn attention to the poor state of roads in parts of Central Equatoria, which remain a challenge for road users, especially during the rainy season.
