
Media Fraternity Bids Farewell to Senior Editor
(JUBA) – The media community in South Sudan is mourning the death of Michael Koma, a long serving journalist and editor, who passed away on Sunday, 12 October 2025. He was 62, according to colleagues.
Koma was the Editor of The Stance Newspaper at the time of his death. He had previously worked with several prominent publications including the Khartoum Monitor, Juba Post and The Witness in both Sudan and South Sudan.
Many journalists and editors in the country viewed him as a mentor due to his decades of work in the field.
The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) confirmed the news and expressed sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues. Members of the media described him as a person who gave guidance to younger journalists and contributed to the growth of independent reporting.
His death is seen as a loss to the press community at a time when media professionals in South Sudan continue to face challenges in their work. Those who worked with him say his experience and support helped shape several newsrooms over the years.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Tributes are expected from former colleagues across different media houses in Sudan and South Sudan. Friends and family say he will be remembered for his calm nature and dedication to journalism.
