(LAINYA, CENTRAL EQUATORIA STATE) – The prolonged shutdown of Unity FM 100.8 in Lainya County has significantly affected residents’ access to timely information and civic education programs in the area.
The chairperson of the station, Julius Luate, says the absence of a functional local radio station has left the community without a reliable source of local news and public awareness content.
Speaking to Access Radio, Luate explained that the station has been off air for nearly a year due to technical problems with its solar power system, which powers the facility.
He is now appealing to well-wishers, partners, and the local community to support efforts to restore the station.
“The radio has been off for nearly one year. I want to call for a technician to assess the exact problem with the power system so that we can work together to bring the station back on air. Having the radio operational is important because it helps the government and development partners communicate timely information to the public,” Luate said.
Unity FM is a community radio initiative established by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) with funding from development partners.
