(JUBA) – Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel of Central Equatoria State led a peace retreat on Wednesday for State government constitutional officeholders and senior officials. The event was held at the Imperial Hotel and organised by the National Ministry of Peace Building.
In his keynote address, Governor Mujung said peacebuilding is a continuous effort that requires honesty, unity and commitment to justice and accountability:
“Peacebuilding is not an event; it is a continuous process of rebuilding relationships, addressing grievances, strengthening institutions, and ensuring justice.”
The Governor encouraged participants to use the retreat as an opportunity to strengthen trust and cooperation among stakeholders. He stressed that trust is fundamental to stability:
“Trust is the currency of stability. Without it, agreements remain on paper. With it, our communities and State become stronger.”
Hon. Stephen Par Kuol, the National Minister of Peace Building, explained that the retreat aims to promote dialogue, collaboration and confidence building among political actors and institutions.
Hon. Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, Central Equatoria State Minister of Peace Building, reminded participants that public officials are accountable to the citizens they serve.
“The public’s expectations require discipline in governance and integrity in our decisions and actions,” he said. “We should remember that the offices entrusted to us by our political parties carry a solemn responsibility to provide guidance, leadership, protection, and services to our citizens.”
According to a statement from the state press unit CESGPU, the two day retreat brought together key leaders of the State to promote cohesion, mutual understanding and the principles of good governance, and to stress the central role of trust and accountability in achieving lasting peace in Central Equatoria.
