The celebration took place on 19 September in Terekeka town under the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful South Sudan.” Hundreds of residents, community leaders and stakeholders gathered to show their commitment to building peace in the country.
In his address, Governor Mujung stressed that peace is not only the duty of government leaders but also the responsibility of citizens. He called on communities to promote dialogue, tolerance and reconciliation, saying that without grassroots involvement, peace efforts would not succeed.
His message reflected that of President Salva Kiir, who recently urged South Sudanese people to turn away from violence and embrace peaceful ways of resolving disputes.
The event in Terekeka included cultural performances, songs and prayers for national unity.
