(Juba, CESGPU) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, met on Thursday with traditional chiefs from Greater Yei to explore closer cooperation between the State Government and community leaders.
The meeting took place in Juba and highlighted the Governor’s efforts to build grassroots partnerships aimed at enhancing peace, governance and social stability across the region.
The governor welcomed the delegation of chiefs from Yei, Kajo-Keji, Morobo and Lainya counties, expressing appreciation for their visit.
He recognized the essential role traditional leaders play in maintaining community unity and promoting peaceful coexistence and called on the chiefs to serve as peace ambassadors by leading local dialogue, encouraging reconciliation and helping resolve conflicts in their respective communities.

“In working with the government, chiefs act as a bridge between the local people and State authorities. By collaborating with the government, chiefs enhance trust and cooperation, paving the way for sustainable peace and development in their areas,” Governor Mujung said during the meeting.
He assured the chiefs of the government’s continued support and collaboration to tackle the pressing challenges communities face, especially in rural areas. These include insecurity, weak local governance, and limited access to essential services.
After the meeting, the Chairperson of the Greater Yei Chiefs, Elias Khamis Barnaba, spoke to the media. He said the delegation had come to congratulate Governor Mujung on his recent appointment and to express their readiness to work with the new administration.
Chief Khamis described the meeting as productive and stressed that the chiefs and the State Government had a shared interest in securing peace and improving coordination on issues affecting the people.

“It was a fruitful meeting we had with the Governor. Among other issues, we also discussed security concerns at the grassroots level. We reaffirm our commitment to stand with the State Government,” said Chief Khamis.
The chiefs raised several concerns about security and development in their areas and welcomed the Governor’s pledge to work more closely with traditional institutions.
They also encouraged the State Government to consider increased support for traditional authorities, who often act as the first responders to community disputes and emergencies.
