(Juba) – Central Equatoria State Governor, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, chaired his first Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday since being appointed by the President.
The meeting held in Juba focused on the governor’s policy priorities, which he outlined as part of his broader vision for improving governance and stimulating socio-economic development across the state.
Speaking to the media after the session, Acting State Minister of Information and Communication, Hon. Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, said Governor Mujung used the occasion to introduce his main areas of focus during his tenure.
Chief among them was the need to create and maintain a peaceful environment, which the Governor identified as a foundation for sustainable development.
He emphasized the restoration of security across the state to ensure the safety of citizens and enable communities to fully engage in development efforts.
Hon. Aligo noted that the Governor also stressed the importance of unity among the people of Central Equatoria, underlining social cohesion as a key factor in promoting peace and progress.
The Governor also placed strong emphasis on building a transparent and accountable government, directing public officials to adopt ethical standards in all their work.
According to Hon. Aligo, Governor Mujung made it clear that corruption will not be tolerated at any level of the administration. He urged all government institutions responsible for service delivery to step up their efforts to meet public needs more effectively.
“The Governor stressed the need for maintaining transparency and accountability during his tenure. He directed that his government will not entertain any form of corruption,” said Hon. Aligo.
In addition to security and good governance, the Governor’s policy agenda includes strengthening institutions tasked with humanitarian response and disaster relief. Governor Mujung also reaffirmed his commitment to reviving the state’s economy by building partnerships with investors and entrepreneurs from both South Sudan and abroad.
Hon. Aligo stated that the Council of Ministers meeting also served as an opportunity for the Governor to familiarize himself with the State Ministers and their portfolios.
He added that more structured engagements would follow as the Governor continues to assess departmental capacities and policy implementation frameworks.
Central Equatoria faces multiple challenges, including displaced populations, food insecurity in rural areas, and infrastructural gaps.
The new administration will be closely watched, especially on how it handles corruption, a major concern across various levels of government in South Sudan.
