(Yei) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, met with leaders from Yei River County on Monday to discuss a range of pressing concerns affecting the region.
The high level meeting took place at the State Secretariat in Juba and brought together the County Commissioner, intellectuals, executives and members of the Central Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly.
The delegation began the session by officially congratulating Governor Mujung on his recent appointment, expressing optimism about his leadership and commitment to addressing long standing challenges in the county.

The talks centred largely on the urgent need to improve security in Yei River County. Delegates stressed that the prevailing insecurity is a major barrier to stability and development.
Participants called for stronger collaboration between state and national authorities to improve law enforcement and protect civilians.
Agricultural development was another key topic. Speakers stressed the need to enhance support for farmers to ensure food security and economic growth. With agriculture being a major livelihood source in Yei River County, improved infrastructure and access to inputs were identified as essential steps toward boosting productivity.

The Governor responded by reaffirming his administration’s focus on peace, unity and development across the state.
He agreed that unity among the people of Central Equatoria was a foundation for progress and called on citizens to work together towards common goals.
Hon. Isaac Aloro, a member of the Central Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly, spoke to journalists after the meeting. He explained that the delegation raised several issues with the Governor, including the presence of armed cattle herders in the area, which has led to rising tensions, and the lack of proper roads which continues to hinder access to services.
“One of the major points we discussed is support to the security forces in Yei,” said Hon. Aloro. “We asked the Governor to work with the national government to provide mobility, food, and other essentials so that the SSPDF can effectively protect the population and their property.”

He emphasised that without basic logistical support, such as transport and food, it would be difficult for the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) in Yei to carry out their duties effectively.
Leaders from Yei expressed hope that the Governor’s commitments would translate into action.
