(YEI COUNTY) – Access Radio 88.8 FM in Yei will begin live online streaming of English Premier League matches this afternoon at 4pm, allowing listeners in South Sudan and abroad to follow the action using only their mobile phones.
The broadcast will be available directly on the station’s website through a simple play button. No radio set is required. Listeners only need basic internet access, as the service uses audio commentary instead of video, which consumes far less data.
This is expected to make it more suitable for South Sudan, where many users rely on limited mobile bundles.
Access Radio said all fixtures scheduled for today will be covered with full match commentary as Premier League football remains one of the most followed sporting events in the country.
The move to online streaming is part of a growing shift recognised by Access Radio in South Sudan, where traditional radio remains dominant, but internet based listening is slowly expanding among young people.
Local football fans often crowd tea stalls and video halls to watch matches, but high video streaming costs make online viewing difficult. Access Radio hopes to reach a wider audience, including South Sudanese living abroad by offering audio only coverage,
