(JUBA / YEI COUNTY) – The Association for Media Development in South Sudan has donated two voice recorders to Access Radio, a community broadcaster based in Yei.
In a statement issued on its official Facebook page, the organisation said the donation was a modest but important contribution towards strengthening public information services. It noted that access to accurate news is crucial, especially in areas where communities rely on local radio as their main source of information.
The organisation said it would continue to assist media outlets across the country whenever possible, adding that support to community stations helps bring out stories affecting people at village level.
Joseph Mansuk, who manages operations at Access Radio, welcomed the donation and said the new recorders would improve the quality of news gathering and programme production. He said they would be used for both daily reporting and training of volunteers:
“These recorders are not only for our news team. We will also use them to teach new volunteers how to collect and produce content.”
Mansuk appealed for further assistance in the form of computers and regular training to build the station’s technical capacity. He said Access Radio was open to collaboration with media and development partners in promoting access to information and civic education.
