(PAKUR, UNITY STATE) – On Thursday, 11 September 2025, the Governor of Unity State, H.E. Riek Bim Top, officially launched the Pakur resettlement site, a reclaimed area recently affected by flooding.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNMISS, and Unity State government officials. Madam Stella Abayomi, Acting Head of Field Operations at UNMISS, pledged continued support and partnership to deliver essential humanitarian services to affected communities.

Governor Bim Top described the launch as a symbol of hope and a significant step in reclaiming lands submerged by floods. He emphasised the state government’s commitment, alongside partners, to providing durable solutions for displaced households.

The Pakur resettlement site covers 5,000 square kilometres and is expected to accommodate around 1,000 households, helping to reduce overcrowding in Rubkona town and providing safer living conditions for affected families.null
