(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Technical Advisor for the County Agriculture Department, Edimon Taban Gogo, has urged farmers in Yei to take advantage of the first seasonal rains by planting cereals in April.
Speaking to Access Radio on Thursday, Gogo emphasized the importance of timely planting to ensure a good harvest. He noted that farming activities have been limited in recent months, which is already affecting market supply.
“If you go to the market, you can see the difference. Many people did not cultivate their land as expected. Crops that should have been planted between February and March are instead being grown only along the streams,” he said.
He encouraged farmers to begin preparing their fields immediately and plant crops such as maize, sorghum, groundnuts, and cassava.
“In April, farmers should continue preparing their land and planting, even if the available space is small—whether in town or rural areas. Within two to three months, crops like maize and groundnuts can grow well and produce yields. Even cassava can do well if planted now,” he added.
Yei is one of the counties in Central Equatoria State known for its agricultural productivity.
