(KAJO-KEJI COUNTY) – Traders in Kajo-Keji County, Central Equatoria State, have raised over 6,000 dollars (about 27,600,000 South Sudanese Pounds) to repair a two kilometre section of Wudu-Leyiko Street.
The work was finished on Tuesday, making it easier for people to reach Wudu Market, Mundari Hospital, the airstrip, the commissioner’s office and nearby homes.
Iyani Moses, chairperson of the Kajo-Keji County Chamber of Commerce, said the road had become difficult to use for traders and residents.
He explained that the local government could not repair the road quickly because of lack of money and technical equipment. This led the business community to raise funds and fix the road themselves.
“We know road repair is normally the government’s job,” Iyani told Access Radio. “But with support from local businesses and permission from the authorities, we hired equipment and repaired the road. It is now open for all vehicles, including trucks.”
Iyani said this project is part of the business community’s effort to support development in the area. He also asked the government to keep peace and stability in the county so people can work on more development projects.
Residents welcomed the road repair and praised the business community. Modo Kiden Alfred, a resident of Wudu town, said the fixed road will make life easier.
“I am happy this bad section is repaired. We can now get to the hospital quickly. I also ask people and politicians in Kajo-Keji to unite and work for peace and development.”
