(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The chairperson of Yei Electricity Corporation (YECO) says power rehabilitation efforts are nearing final completion, with electricity expected to resume within two months.
Richard Lugala Godo told Access Radio that the board leadership met and briefed the county commissioner, Samuel Henry Malimbo today Tuesday, on the progress made ahead of the operationalization of the power facility.
He said technical assessments on the power generator, as well as the inspection and installation of street poles to the main market and other residential areas, have been completed.
“We have already completed the fixing of the poles from the main station up to the main market and the only thing remaining is the need for funds to buy more poles and other accessories and for now we are moving well and we are expecting some funds from the state government through the ministry of physical infrastructure and we also learnt from the first director of the ministry is that there will be a Lebanese company coming to fix the other remaining spare parts of the generator”
Lugala called on the public to remain patient and cooperate with YECO management as efforts are underway to ensure that the power supply is restored in the town.
“My message to the public is that let the public be patient, we are working very hard to ensure that the power is restored in Yei town within the two months to come and let the people in the town cooperate so that we see the power is on”
YECO has remained non-functional since the outbreak of conflict in 2016, leaving Yei Town without a stable public electricity supply for years.
