Power Restoration Work Begins at Yei Electricity Corporation (YECO)

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Technical work aimed at restoring electricity supply in Yei town has officially commenced, according to the Chairperson of Yei Electricity Corporation (YECO), Richard Lugala Godo.

Lugala confirmed to Access Radio that repair works began on Monday, focusing on fixing engine generators and replacing missing accessories. Although the main generators are operational, they currently lack some critical components needed for full functionality.

“Work has started on fixing other accessories and somebody has gone to Juba to bring some spare parts. We also need to look into the poles,” Lugala said.
He added that the initiative is being driven by the state government, with project funding support from the World Bank.

A separate technical team is expected to assess the condition of power supply lines, the suitability and stability of electricity poles, distribution coverage along major streets and urban areas of Yei town.

The inspection will determine the level of rehabilitation required before full power restoration.

Lugala urged residents of Yei to actively contribute to the town’s development process.

“Every person in Yei has to contribute for the wellbeing of our county and the town. If you are a son of Yei — whether in London or elsewhere in the world — you need to look back home,” he said.

He emphasized unity and collective responsibility in rebuilding local infrastructure.

On Monday, Emmanuel Taban Seme met with the newly appointed YECO board members to lay the groundwork for operational progress. The commissioner assured the board of his administration’s full support toward the successful revival of the power utility.

The restoration of electricity is expected to boost economic activity and improve essential services across Yei town once fully operational.
