(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Authorities in Yei River County say efforts are underway to repair generators at the Yei Electricity Corporation (YECO), a move aimed at restoring electricity supply in the town.
On Wednesday, County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo, alongside the State Director General of Physical Infrastructure and officials from the county’s Department of Physical Infrastructure, visited the facility to inspect progress on the ongoing repairs.
Speaking at the site, Commissioner Malimbo said security personnel have been deployed to safeguard the facility and ensure protection of critical infrastructure during the maintenance process.
Officials added that the ongoing repair works are expected to improve the efficiency and reliability of electricity services in Yei Town once completed.
Last month, County Director of Physical Infrastructure Richard Lugala Godo told Access Radio that YECO was expected to resume power supply after two months.
Meanwhile, Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil recently restructured the YECO board and urged for the speedy restoration of electricity in the town.
Residents of Yei have repeatedly called on both county and state authorities to deliver on their promises and restore a stable and reliable power supply.
