(YEI RIVER COUNTY)- A committee from the state ministry of housing land and public utilities tasked to assess YECO arrived Yei River County on Tuesday.
The State Ad-hoc Committee formed through a gubernatorial order on the 5th of February 2026 was mandated to assess the circumstances hindering the operationalization of the Yei Electricity Corporation (YECO).
The power plant remained non-operational since the outbreak of the 2016 conflict.
Among other objectives of the committee includes; to conduct a comprehensive technical assessment, evaluate the overall condition of the facility, examine the functionality of its machinery, review maintenance history, and determine its current operational status.
County commissioner Emmanuel Taban Seme expressed appreciation to the State Government and the committee for its swift move to ensure full resumption of electricity supply in Yei River County.
Seme welcomed and granted the Committee full authorization to carry out its assignment and urged members to conduct a thorough, accurate, and transparent assessment to support informed decision-making and potential rehabilitation efforts.
John Bullen, First Director General at the State Ministry of Housing, Lands and Public Utilities who heads the committee commended the County leadership for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the team.
He assured the Hon Commissioner of the Committee’s commitment to deliver professional, credible, and objective findings in line with the gubernatorial directive.
The assessment marks a significant step toward addressing long-standing electricity challenges and exploring viable pathways to restoring reliable power supply for the residents of Yei River County.
However it still remains unclear whether the World Bank funded power rehabilitation project which was started in mid 2025 remains functional or closed.
