(YEI RIVER COUNTY) A prominent trader in Yei River County has shared an inspiring account of how determination and hard work helped him build a successful business despite lacking formal education.
Speaking in an interview with Access Radio on Tuesday, Joseph — a local entrepreneur — recounted his journey from humble beginnings to financial stability. He said he began his business in 2016, growing it gradually through persistence and hands-on effort.
“I started the work in 2016, slowly by slowly, until it became something meaningful,” he said. “Today, the work supports me and has enabled my children to go to school.”
Joseph emphasized that, although he never attended school, he has been able to create a stable livelihood through self-reliance. He noted that daily earnings from his business allow him to provide for his family without waiting for a monthly salary.
“Sometimes, work done by hand is just as important as office work,” he explained. “With business, I can earn 2,000 or 3,000 in a day. My children can eat, and our life is improving.”
He encouraged others not to look down on informal or manual work, stressing that any honest activity that generates income is valuable.
“No one should think only office jobs are good jobs,” he said. “Any work that brings income and supports your family is important.”
Joseph also urged young people to overcome shame and embrace hard work, warning against idleness.
“Work does not need shyness. Try something, and you will see the benefits,” he added. “Do not waste time sitting idle or playing cards. Nothing comes easy without hard work.”
His message serves as a reminder that resilience, initiative, and consistency can pave the way to success, regardless of educational background.
