Police blamed excessive speed and possible brake failure.

The driver was arrested and detained in Nimule Prison, Eye Radio reported in August 2024.

Armed attacks on Eco Bus

The company has also been repeatedly targeted by armed groups.

In July 2026, an Eco Bus was ambushed along the Juba-Bor highway near Mogiri.

Radio Tamazuj reported that the driver was shot and injured.

Three passengers sustained minor injuries from shattered glass.

Attackers robbed passengers of cash and mobile phones before fleeing.

In October 2016, two Eco Bus vehicles were ambushed along the Juba-Nimule road near Nesitu.

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization reported the incident.

Passengers were ordered out of the vehicles and taken to the bushes.

One bus was set on fire.

The Xinhua news agency reported that three buses, including one from Eco Bus, were attacked by armed men.

Passengers were robbed of their belongings.

Ongoing insecurity along the highway

A driver for Eco Bus told Xinhua in February 2017 that the Juba-Nimule road remained dangerous.

He cited gunmen, poor road conditions, and illegal checkpoints.

He said the journey from Juba to Nimule, normally two and a half hours, was taking up to six hours due to security escorts and delays.

The same driver told Xinhua in June 2017 that some travellers had resorted to flying to Nimule and catching the bus from there.

He said this was due to the risk of death on the road.

The injured in today’s accident are said to be receiving attention.

More information is expected as authorities gather facts about the incident.

This is a developing story.
