(Aweil) – The Abiem Students Association in Universities and Higher Institutions held a general assembly on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Aweil Town. The meeting focused on the association’s progress since its formation and on planning new activities to engage students from the Abiem community in education, culture, and unity.
During the assembly, the association’s objectives and constitution were read aloud to inform both longtime and new members about its mission and the contributions it has made over the years. Leaders used the occasion to invite more students, especially those in universities, institutes, and high schools, to join the association. They assured prospective members of the benefits of participating, including leadership training, fostering unity, and building patriotism.
Chairperson Kuol Kuol Tiek told the assembly that the leadership would act quickly on recommendations made during the meeting. Among the planned activities are school competitions in sports, essay writing, and other educational games targeted at high schools in Aweil East County and throughout Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.
Deputy Chairperson Veronica Arek Garang confirmed that drama clubs and cultural dance groups will soon be formed, with a particular emphasis on establishing a girls’ dance group. These cultural efforts are intended to strengthen identity and student engagement across the region.
Secretary General Tol Josep Garang Bak echoed these commitments, saying the association is making swift progress with its cultural programs. He stressed that unity, consistency, and dedication remain central to the group’s purpose across the state.
To support these efforts, members of the general assembly raised SSP 640,000 (approximately USD 500) during the session. These funds will be used to kick-start the planned activities and cultural events within a short time frame.
Founded in 2012, the Abiem Students Association was created to address challenges facing students from the Abiem community.
