(Aweil) – South Sudan Education Centre Secondary School in Aweil Town, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, has organized a series of inter-class competitions aimed at encouraging student participation in activities beyond the classroom. The contests which included sports, debate, essay writing, a spelling bee, and other games, took place throughout the week starting Monday and were designed to enhance creativity, physical fitness, and talent development among students.
The events featured participation from all grade levels—senior one through senior four. The competitions were structured to promote teamwork, critical thinking, and healthy rivalry across classes.
In the essay writing contest, senior four students came out on top in the class rankings. However, the best individual performance was recorded by a senior three student. The mathematics contest was also won by senior four students, who continued their impressive performance across most competitions.
Senior four also dominated the debate competition, securing first place, while senior two students finished second. The spelling bee provided a surprise when senior two students emerged as winners, outperforming senior one, senior three, and senior four, showing strong accuracy in word spelling.
In athletics, senior four students won the marathon for both boys and girls, while the relay race was won by senior three students. On the sports field, the senior four girls secured the football trophy after winning the final match against senior two girls on Friday.
A basketball match was organized between two teams made up of students from all classes—Team Green and Team Orange. Team Green emerged as the winner of that match, which was played on Wednesday.
According to Headteacher John Majook, the competitions will conclude with a final football match between senior one and senior three, along with a rope-pulling event.
